The chapters are not written in normal paragraph
form; rather they are arranged in poetic stanzas.
Praying the Scriptures is superior to reading the
Scriptures, because normal reading of the Bible deals
with the intellect, i.e., you pass the message through
your mind. But when you Pray the Scriptures, you go
to a deeper level, i.e., to the heart.Your emotions
become involved in the message, and then you move
your will, for when you talk to God through the
Scriptures, you have chosen to worship God and obey

From Chapter 1 of Exodus 1 "Israel in Egypt" to Leviticus 27 "The Laws About Gifts Offered To The LORD" Dr. Towns is giving/providing to each of us the opportunity to study and complete a seminary course by easily reading and digesting the Word of God in these two books of Scripture.|
|Praying the Scriptures with Elmer Towns - Volume 10 Mar 22, 2009|
|Dr. Elmer Towns uses an intriguing story form, in this series, which he calls transliteration. Familiar passages from the Old Testament books of Exodus and Leviticus take on a fresh new meaning as a result of Towns creative and imaginative gift of communication. He tells of a visit by Moses to a much older Job. Moses wants to know more about the history of the Hebrew people, his people. |
As Towns transliterates the book of Exodus he begins with the birth of Moses and continues the well known story, chapter by chapter. The Lord's call on Moses' life to take a message of hope and deliverance to the people of Israel, the 10 plagues experienced by the Egyptians all come to life through the genius of Town's writing style. Towns captured the joy, praise, and worship experienced by the Israelites as they lifted their voices in singing the "Song of Deliverance" after being freed from the bondage of Egypt.
All of the other events and highlights of the Exodus are included with the call to holiness, offerings, and lessons on life emphasized in the book of Leviticus. The book is a masterpiece of translation and adaptation of Old Testament history, instruction, and interpretation.
The powerfully crafted prayers express worship, thanksgiving, and praise with personal applications for the contemporary reader. These prayers enlighten the mind and touch the emotions and the will. When prayed from the heart the one praying them will be transformed into the image of Christ.
The first Passover prayer was especially significant to me, as I pictured the blood from the sacrificial lamb sprinkled over the sides and top of the door. I could almost see and feel the death angel passing over.
As in the other books in the series the "My Turn to Pray" sections reflect meaningful expressions of my response to Town's inspiring and anointed work. This is an excellent book for Bible study and devotional reading. Highly recommended.
