Very good overall, but I skipped some parts... Feb 6, 2009
Very good overall - shows you things in perspective and educational in some parts, but I also skipped some parts where she was referring to the Bible too much. I am not very religious, so I couldn't tolerate the "Bible" parts. Also, she has a very heavy southern accent - I was OK with it, but my husband could not tolerate this.
Overall, it is a good CD book - easy language and helpful tips about improving your life.
Makes you LOVE your precious life! Jan 23, 2009
Wonderful inspiration to all! I cannot believe there are only 15 reviews at the time I am typing this. I really pray that more people would read this book and appreciate it as much as I do. This book has really helped in my personal growth and in becoming closer to God. Definitely feel more positive and have a brighter outlook on life! Thank you, Victoria! Wish I could give her a big hug for all the work she put into this book, for her positive influence on others and for all the unselfish ways she and Joel reach out to many :-)
Paradoxical It Seems to Me Jan 19, 2009
Is Victoria Osteen teaching contrary to what Jesus taught? "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's the same shall save it," He says in Mark 8:35. Matthew 10:39 emphasizes the same principle. Or could it be that when Scripture is evaluated with Scripture in a broader context the subtle truth emerges, i.e., that what she's advocating in this book is the message that Jesus says summarizes all the law, i.e., to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40 and Luke 10:27).
I tend to see it as the latter. Perhaps the title is misleading in that it implies self seeking, but the essence of the book is just the opposite. It is in serving that one gains gratification. Consider this gem on how to improve interaction with others..."Sometimes minor adjustments in your approach to people can make a major difference in the quality of your relationships. And your relationships have a direct impact on the quality of your life" (p. 163).
This book is full of wisdom from a woman who has learned how to improve the quality of life for herself and she is sharing those insights with her readers in a candid way. Basically she's talking about denying your selfishness and being open to God and other people.
On finding your destiny she writes, "Be prepared, because God is ready to fulfill the dreams and desires He's placed within your heart. He loves to restore opportunities that once seemed lost forever. And sometimes He brings those opportunities back in ways we haven't considered or weren't looking for" (p. 110).
I find this to be a powerful book full of encouraging wisdom on how to connect with God's purposes for your life. Jesus taught stewardship principles. The teachings here build on that foundation. I'll let Victoria have the last word, "You never know what door God will open for you as you begin to use what you have" (p. 101).

Excellent Book for those looking for a Godly example in life Jan 2, 2009
This book is a very good Christian 'read'. This is a book of how God would choose us to view and live our life. It is not intended to make us perfect in our life. It is intended to help us see the most positive aspects of life events. It is certainly a 'glass half full' view of our lives. There is so much negativity in the world that touches us directly, but it is how we deal with the negativity and understand how to move it in a positive directional flow. I found the book to be a very interesting read. She uses several examples each chapter, and when she does, I feel a part of her examples. It helps the book come to life for me. I see myself in many ways throughout the book. It is not a 'bible quote' book. It is merely a guide to help us understand the positives in life, and we can certainly use another positive Christian approach in our life.
By the way, the Osteens encourage everyone to 'get involved in a bible based church'. They do not preach one particular religion, but unlike other religious and spiritual leaders, they are perfect in this guidance. This is why the Osteens are the most popular spiritual leaders in the world.
